Welcome to Intentional Therapy
Therapy & Counseling by: Steven Ellison, LCSW
I'm glad you found me. In the vast sea of potential therapist, it can be a jarring and overwhelming experience to look for the best therapeutic fit. In my experience most people in this search are wondering: "How will I know if this is the right therapist?" or "What if I meet them and I still feel unsure?" To all of you, with all of your questions, I say please read on. Funny as it may seem, finding the right therapist in this time period is not unlike looking for the proper date. Strange to say, I know but it's true in so many ways, especially in this online dating age. I would wager that the primary similarity between dating and searching for a therapist is that no matter how much we read about a person online, we tend not to know how we feel until we meet them. Until we are sitting face-to-face with one another; sharing the same space and breathing the same air.
We live in a time period where we can be very easily overwhelmed and over-stimulated by the abundance of options presented to us. We have recommendations for everything under sun from: finding the best food, best places to live, highest salaries, most trustworthy mechanics, most effective dating service and of course most helpful therapy. However, in all instances of decision-making, our process is relatively the same. It often comes down two things: what some call "analysis-paralysis" i.e. "I can shop around all day for months and never decide." OR we can choose to step out from behind our screens and take action by making a brave and bold choice for ourselves.

At Intentional Therapy, my goal is to support you with transforming a life experienced as impossibly challenging, powerless, stressful, painful or disconnected into a life experienced and lived as growth-filled, empowering, enlightening, and deeply connected through our partnered therapeutic intention.

My Story
Like so many of you, I found therapy the same way that we all do - by living life and trying to put my best foot forward. I discovered and learned to love therapy not only as a career but as a means of furthering my own healing, growth, and sense of connection with self and others. As a therapist, I feel that it is an honor and a privilege for me to participate in the healing of others and to support people from all walks of life in learning how to ultimately be a therapist for themselves.
